The Frightfest Line Up – The Thoughts of a Frightened Puppy

Yes, I know I’m late to the show but having stood in the queue ON MY BIRTHDAY no less to get my weekend pass I am proud to announce that ‘Puppys Row’ will be taking up residence in the middle section of Row F.  There will be nine of us in total so if it kicks off, I’ll be the one clambering over the seats to get away.

As per usual I’ve not exposed myself to any of the films information just in case I come across any spoilers.  The only problem with that is there are some quite controversial titles up for perusal this year which worries me especially with rumours of genital mutilation and a scene involving a baby or three… *gags*

On with the list, lets start with the main screen:

Thursday 26th August

6.30 – HATCHET II
9.15 – PRIMAL
11.15 – DEAD CERT

Friday 27th August

10.15 – EGGSHELLS
1.00 – TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE
3.15 – TOTAL ICON TOBE HOOPER
5.30 – ISLE OF DOGS
7.45 – F
9.15 – RED HILL
11.30 ALIEN VS. NINJA

Saturday 28th August

11.00 – CHERRY TREE LANE
1.15 – THE TORTURED
3.15 – 13 HRS
6.30 - I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE
9.00 – MONSTERS
11.30 – DREAM HOME

Sunday 29th August

11.00 - THE PACK
1.00 -ANDY NYMAN’S QUIZ FROM HELL
+ FILM4 FRIGHTFEST INTERNATIONAL
SHORT FILM SHOWCASE

4.00 – WE ARE WHAT WE ARE
6.30 – KABOOM
9.00 – A SERBIAN FILM
11.30 – THE LOVED ONES

Monday 30th August

11.15 – VIDEO NASTIES: MORAL PANIC,
CENSORSHIP AND VIDEOTAPE

1.15 – THE DEAD
3.30 – BEDEVILLED
6.30 - RED WHITE & BLUE
9.00 – THE LAST EXORCISM

Lets begin with the controversial.  Adam Green said I’m not allowed near any of his guests because I really didn’t get the hype over the first Hatchet, however *coughs and prepares to lick arse in order to get to Tony Todd, Danielle Harris and Kane Hodder* the man is such an energy that you can’t help but go along for the ride with him.  Both Spiral and Frozen were very entertaining films and you can see his progression from feature to feature.  His enjoyment of the festival is equal to those of the Die Hard frightfesters as well, his Epic journey to try and get to Glasgow for the UK Premiere of Frozen was scuppered (ironically) by snow storms and the ice that caused the plane to skid off the runway.

With a World Premiere for Hatchet II to kick off proceedings it’s going to be a great night and yes I may not be a fan of Friday the 13th style slashers but with Danielle Harris and a cracking cast lined up to attend, the Frightfest boys have outdone themselves.

However that’s not the only premiere on opening night, we also have the world premieres of Primal and Brit Horror Dead Cert.

Those alone are enough to get the mouth watering but have you seen the rest of the line up? Click on the titles to go see the descriptions, I don’t want to spoil the films for myself as I’ve already done with The Loved Ones by watching the FRICKIN TRAILER.  I hate trailers that give away too much!

Although my excitement metre just went up a notch as it turns out none other than Supernatural fan favourite CHAD LINDBERG might be turning up for UK Premiere of the I Spit On Your Grave remake.  Hoping some of them like Chad decide to stay for the majority of the festival as us Frightfest bunch? We’re really nice.

The stars just need to avoid the eBayers that camp outside the cinema… those evil eBayers, I’m kinda hoping they’ll be moved on this year.  Yeah I like to add to my autograph collection but I really don’t wanna have to contend with professionals to get 20 seconds with stars I may never see again due to their american-ness.

There’s a LOT to look forward to this year and as Alan Jones was telling me, the majority of films on the main screen won’t be seen for at least a year to a year and a half in the mainstream.  Which is an awesome pull for the fans of the festival.

The only problem for me is A Serbian Film this film apparently takes the Hostel, torture porn genre so far off the register you’ll want to bleach out your eyes and join the clergy just to cleanse your soul.  I’ve not heard much about it, only the stark warnings of reviewers who have seen the film but refuse to mention anything that happens within its running time.  They only mention that it is vile and only for the strongest of stomach.  The problem here is, if that is true then this may be my only chance to see A Serbian Film and I feel as a blogger, it’s something I have to do, even if I may have to throw up into my large coke.

In addition to the main line up, the Discovery Screen will once again make a return to Frightfest.  The films that didn’t quite make it or will be nearing theatrical/home release soon after the festival closes.  I’m kinda glad this year as last year the main screen was littered with a few films that were set for release the following Monday, which I have to say I thought was rather lame.  In fact the Cinema Store stall had some of those films on sale before they had actually been shown at the festival… DOH!!!

Here’s what to expect from the discovery screen:

Friday 27th August

10.45 – BURNING BRIGHT
12.45 – THE CLINIC
3.00 – FINALE
5.00 – WOUND
7.15 – OUTCAST
9.45 – HIGANJIMA: ESCAPE
FROM VAMPIRE ISLAND

Saturday 28th August

11.00 – CHRISTOPHER ROTH
1.15 – FAN BOYS
3.30 – AFTER.LIFE
6.35 – FINALE
9.00 – BURNING BRIGHT

Sunday 29th August

11.00 – HIGANJIMA: ESCAPE
FROM VAMPIRE ISLAND
1.30 – OUTCAST
4.05 – WOUND
6.35 – AMER
9.05 – THE CLINIC

Monday 30th August

11.00 – AMER
1.30 – AFTER.LIFE
3.35 – FANBOYS
6.35 – CHRISTOPHER ROTH

Burning Bright - Pretty Kitty!

This one is easy, I only want to see Burning Bright which I shall be replacing Eggshells for… I think quite a few people will be doing that which is sad since Tobe Hooper has come a long way.  I’m sure we’ll make up for it during Texas Chainsaw Massacre and the Q&A though.  I REALLY hope there’s a signing.  As a collector and with Frightfest growing the way it is, it’s sometimes difficult sacrificing the social aspect in the hope of adding to my wall of fame plus with the amount of people there are it can be overwhelming in that lobby area when a film finishes.

Really looking forward to August and equally honoured to have been asked to contribute to the Frightfest 2010 Programme this year.  I hope I make the ‘Final Cut’! Mwu hahahaha

See you in August folks and stay tuned for some pre-frightfest interviews to whet your appetites for the coming festival.  I’ve got some great stuff lined up… if I don’t get swamped with work again *cries* it’s like they pay me and expect me to do stuff!!!

Why?!?!

Nice summary there, which impressively doesn’t give any spoilers (apart from letting on that you’re kind of a stalker, but then we did really know that already!)

Looking forward to loads of these films. While I too want to see Burning Bright I’d rather catch the second showing and miss out on Monsters rather than miss Eggshells, particularly because Tobe Hooper will be there himself, so it’d be cheeky to nip off when he’s made the trip over especially!

See you there. Row J for me.
