Google Nexus on o2 won’t connect to 3G? Here’s what you need…

Well after spending all my time on wireless with my Google Nexus One over the weekend, I got into work and attempted to get on to twitter for some tweeting fun.  The only problem was, the app couldn’t connect to twitter.com.  I thought to myself twitter might be down, so tried to get on the web and low n behold, I couldn’t.

Panic sets in and I realise I am not connect to Edge or 3G… I didn’t notice because I’d been recieving texts and all sorts, so assumed the phone was working fine on my network.  After a little investigation however, it turns out o2 doesn’t like the phone in that it won’t automatically pick up MMS/3G settings… so as a user you’ll have to input them yourself.

Here are the settings I’ve found… and they work!!

Press ‘Menu’.
Tap ‘Settings’.
Tap ‘Wireless Controls’.
Tap ‘Mobile networks’.
Tap ‘Access Point Names’.
Press ‘Menu’.
Tap ‘Add APN’

Now key in the following settings:

Name: mobile web
APN: mobile.o2.co.uk
Proxy: *LEAVE BLANK*
Port: *LEAVE BLANK*
Username: web
Password: password
Server: *LEAVE BLANK*
MMSC: *LEAVE BLANK*
MMS Proxy: *LEAVE BLANK*
MMS Port: *LEAVE BLANK*
MCC: 234
MNC: 10
APN Type: default

Press ‘Menu’
Tap ‘Save’

Press ‘Back’.
Press ‘Menu’.
Tap ‘Add APN’

Name: O2 MMS
APN: wap.o2.co.uk
Proxy: http://wap.o2.co.uk
Port:9201
Username: o2wap
Password: password
Server: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
MMSC: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
MMSproxy: 193.113.200.195
MMS port: 8080
MCC: 234
MNC: 10
APN type: mms

Press ‘Menu’
Tap ‘Save’

Once you’ve completed the steps above, restart the phone and away you go!!
